Foreign License Conversion to FAA

Flight Center International offers conversion training from your foreign pilot’s license to an FAA license.

The first step is to convert your foreign license to an FAA PPL.

To do so, you must request a Foreign Verification Letter from the FAA. This can be done from your home country. Once you arrive in the US to convert the license, you will arrange a meeting with an FAA DPEwith all your paperwork. The meeting will consists of a short interview and review of your documents. DPE will then certify you as a Foreign-Based Private Pilot. To then be current, you will need a valid Medical Exam and to complete a Flight Review. After, you will continue with the necessary training hours to obtain the remaining licenses.

We aim to provide the most up to date information, but please check with the appropriate regulatory authority for the latest and most current regulations for your conversion. There are a couple of options for those who wish to fly in the US and obtain an FAA certificate.

  • For Private Pilots seeking to only convert their Private Pilot License, you only need to complete the Foreign-Based FAA Private Pilot License Process.

    • Note: This license depends on your foreign-based license and validity of the Foreign Verification Letter, which expires every 6 months. Both will have to be maintained current for your Private Pilot License here to be maintained as current.

  • For Commercial Pilots with less than 1,500 hours, you can convert your foreign commercial pilot license equivalent to an FAA Commercial Pilot’s License by obtaining the Foreign-Based FAA Private Pilot License and completing the IFR and Commercial Pilot training.

    • This process will take 2-4 months to complete in our school

  • For pilots with more than 1,500 hours that meet all the requirements for an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) License, with either a current CPL or ATP foreign license equivalent, you can obtain an ATP License by completing an ATP-CTP training at a certified training program and completing a few hours of flight training in our Piper Seneca in preparation for an ATP check ride.

    • The flight training and check-ride process can be done in our school and will take 2-4 weeks to complete
